Daniel Webster Animal Hospital

A thorough understanding of animal hospital design is a significant feature of the knowledge base at Stenbak Design Associates. The Daniel Webster Animal Hospital, founded by Dr. Alan Tucker, and currently owned and operated by Dr.'s. Edward Rooney and Barbara Heald, was started on the motif of additions to existing residences and garages, and incremental improvements, as time and money allowed.

Stenbak Design was brought into the process at the time that a purchase of the building and practice was being initiated. Needless to say, the new owners were challenged with meeting a budget and a building design, which would completely envelop the existing structures, and provide for a site design that would be capable of supporting a new hospital with added staff and capabilities.

The renovations and additions, as constructed, proved to be very challenging: the practice needed to remain operational during all construction activities to meet the needs of both clients and practitioners. We chose a phased approach to the construction, which would keep the sub contractors working while the animals, staff and pet owners attended to the business of animal care.

The 7,500 square foot facility, with a staff of over 25, presents a caring environment in which the surgical and treatment needs of their clients are met. The design style -- New England contemporary -- offers a professional and relaxing experience to all those involved during both routine and emergency visits.
